Well a very exciting and entertaining night at the Bloscars last night. The awards attracted an incredibly mixed crowd with some nice talent, and more importantly gave me the chance to meet some blogging heros.

Met Annie for the first time who couldn’t be sweeter if you covered her with sprinkles.
Headrambles who is insanely modest for someone so talented and deservedly won “Best Personal Blog” with Grannymar.
K8, a cracking looking girl as well as a very gifted writer.
Fiona who I haven’t seen in ages but has been VERY busy - good luck with the move!
Twenty is actually very cute if you could wash his mouth out with soap and water of course.
Kirstie who has the most glorious skin in all Ireland or may be that was just the glow of winning “Best Group Blog”?

Sadly some of my favourites didn’t win. I would make the earnest plea that wonderful and talented as Twenty is can we please give him a Life Time Achievement award next year and clear the way for new bloggers like Bock and Primal to give them some much earned and needed media space. ( I know this sounds like I ate an unripe vine - sorry! ) While I am on a roll can we also Taser the people who talk during acceptance speeches. All year long bloggers slave over their posts with no recognition or reward, for many this is their one moment in the sun and some plonker decides their conversation is more important. If you really want to talk go to the bar! (end of rant)

On a happier note, Rick did an amazing job as host. I can highly recommend him as an MC and he seemed genuinely touched at winning the Best Pop Culture Blog. Embarrassingly I got a bit star struck when I met him and ended up having an “I like cake” conversation - guess I better stick with the writing.

Of course the big shout out must go to Damien & Co. for organising such a spectacular night. Well done to everyone and see you all next year.

Due to bizarre Facebook reunion ( it is worth setting up a profile ) I ended up spending the weekend with an old “friend” in Italy. Like most things in my life it didn’t work out as planned. When I recover emotionally and physically I’ll pass on the details. Anything happen while I was away?

The one down side of my booty call is the crowd he hangs around. At 11pm all the waxworks came storming into the party loudly proclaiming that mine was one of 72 events they were attending that night. Inevitably I got stuck in the kitchen with Mme Tussurd in some weird Newtonian law of attracting things you least want to be with. In a desperate bid to escape I started admiring her watch so I could cue my “Oh is that the time - I’m meant to be anywhere else but here” line. Sadly I never got that far:

“So kind of you to say, it’s FAB-U-LOUS, I just love my watch” Mme T

“Yes, it’s certainly unusually, who’d have thought you could fit that many diamonds on the second hand” me

“Well actually, it’s a very exclusive French make, you probably haven’t heard of it” Mme T

(what with me being from the country and only knowing brands of potatoes)

“Actually it does look very familiar” me

“Really, I wouldn’t think you’d know Cartier……” Mme T

Her patronizing tone was brave considering the number of knives in the kitchen.

“Well actually I did look at Cartier watches, but thought they appeared a bit common so I got a Patek* instead,” I responded while pulling up my sleeve to display my little Platinum number.

Naturally I didn’t mention that mine came via China. I figured that someone with so little taste in watches couldn’t possibly tell the difference.

The good news is I managed to make the “Blog Awards” short list for “Best Blog” and “Best Personal Blog“. The bad news is that I am up against some really amazing bloggers, but at least I can say I got this far! Thanks to anyone who was kind enough to vote and best of luck to all the other bloggers.

PS - Anyone know who I need to sleep with to improve my chances?
